Leading the way in quantum innovation

M Squared Lasers are a leading developer of photonics and quantum technology. Their light-based applications are used in many fields, including quantum technology, biophotonics and chemical sensing serving scientists, corporations and industries.

M Squared products are used in a wide range of sectors from frontier science, space, defence, oil and gas, healthcare, and food and drink. As well as supplying innovative products to industry, they partner with businesses and academic facilities to create tailored applications to solve complex problems. This has resulted in breakthroughs in areas as diverse as dementia research, cancer diagnosis and whiskey maturation.

M Squared was founded by University of Strathclyde graduate’s Dr Graeme Malcolm OBE and Dr Gareth Maker in 2006. Since then they’ve partnered with the University of Strathclyde to open a quantum research facility in the Inovo Building within Glasgow City Innovation District. This facility allows M Squared to compete globally in commercialising quantum technology.

The Innovation District represents the heart of high-tech innovation in Glasgow and the UK more broadly. We are an ambitious and high-growth business and being located in the innovation district gives us an ideal opportunity to scale the company at pace while collaborating with other regional innovators.

The capabilities of quantum innovation are huge and can produce benefits such as faster internet searching, improved financial data analysis, reducing travel time, more accurate weather prediction, enhanced medical drugs and ground-breaking new materials. The UK government is continuing to invest millions into quantum technology to ensure they remain at the forefront of the coming quantum revolution and M Squared has benefited from government and banking investment which has enabled them to make developments within quantum innovation and help tackle climate change. Their success to date has resulted in many international awards including The Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation.
