Three minutes is all it takes

Falling Walls Lab is a world-class pitch competition, networking forum, and steppingstone that brings together a diverse and interdisciplinary pool of students and early-career professionals by providing a stage for global and local breakthrough ideas. 

In three minutes each, you get the opportunity to try to convince a high-calibre jury of your solution to some of the most pressing challenges of our time. The breakthrough factor and potential impact of your presented work helps to determine the winner, who qualifies for the global finale in Berlin on 7th November and wins a ticket to attend the FallingWallsScience Summit. 

What's involved? 

Pitch your innovative idea to our judging panel showcasing a breakthrough that creates a positive impact on science and society. 

Who is it open to? 

Falling walls is open to anyone over the age of 18 who fulfil one of the following formal requirements: 

  • You are currently enrolled in a university 
  • You are currently a postdoc
  • You have received a Bachelor's degree in the last 10 years
  • You have received a Master's degree in the last 7 years
  • You have received a PhD in the last 5 years

A medical degree excluding a doctoral dissertation is considered equivalent to a Master's degree and a medical degree with a doctoral dissertation is considered equivalent to a PhD. 

Where? 

The pitching will occur at the Technology and Innovation Center, 99 George Street, Glasgow, G1 1RD.

What can you win? 

The winner of the Scotland Lab will win a £5,000 prize fund to help further develop their idea from our partner Marks & Clerk.  While all entrants have the opportunity to book a complimentary 30-minute consultation with a Marks & Clerk advisor.

When? 

Pitching will take place on the 29th of September, with the application deadline of the 25th of August.
